SGLWT - Hybrider TechTalk
20. SGLWT - hybrider TechTalk

The TechTalk will be held in hybrid format in MS-Teams and in person at the LFW building of the ETH-Zurich, Room C5, Universitätstrasse 2, 8092 Zürich.
All participants are invited to join the “Dunnstigs Bier” directly afterwards at the same location. The first beer will be offered by SGLWT.
«Potential of Pressure Change Technology (PCT) for non-thermal juice treatments»
“The demand for non-thermally treated juices is on the rise. As of today, several processes have established, which reduce the microbial load non-thermally, such as: pulsed light, ultraviolet light, pulsed electric fields, high-pressure processing, and supercritical carbon dioxide treatments. Dr. Ana Lucía Vásquez-Caicedo former Team leader at the “Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology” will introduce us to the method of Pressure Change Technology (PCT) for the treatment of fruit juices. PCT involves a pressurization step with inert gas, that penetrates the microbial cells. During rapid pressure reduction the gas expands and disrupts the cells. Compared to High Pressure Processing (HPP) the method works at lower pressure levels (50 compared to 500 MPa), has lower energy consumption and operational costs. Further benefits include the low temperature 40°C and short holding time. Ana Lucia and her team are now starting a venture envisioned to revolutionize and digitalize the non-thermal pasteurization technology for beverages. Link to the scientific article of PCT treatment for orange juice. If you would like to dive deeper into the technology sign up for the hybrid TechTalk on Thursday, 15. of May 2025, 18.15-19.00 o’clock.
The TechTalk will be held in hybrid format in MS-Teams and in person at the LFW building of the ETH-Zurich, Universitätstrasse 2, 8092 Zürich.
All participants are invited to join the “Dunnstigs Bier” directly afterwards at the same location for free.”
